Our story and mission behind what we do.

We’re a family owned business located in the Kingdom of Tonga. We have 20 years of experience in the seaweed industry. We farm, harvest, package and export seaweed in raw and dried form. We serve both domestic and international markets.

Masa Kawaguchi Sr founded the seaweed company in 1998 and called it Tangle Nano until his son, Masa Jr, took over the business in 2015 and rebranded it as South Pacific Mozuku (SPM). Masa and the SPM team then began extending its product line to include luxury cosmetics and lotions derived from Mozuku.

SPM is refocusing its efforts on the local market in order to increase the public’s awareness concerning this healthy sea vegetable that would improve people’s health and wellbeing.

Masa Jr wants SPM to also provide local employment opportunities and to strengthen local expertise in the nurturing and harvesting of this unique seaweed.

SPM aims to  setup a local laboratory to focus on the extraction of Fucoidan, mozuku’s key ingredient with immense health benefits.

Limu Tanga’u (Mozuku) grows naturally in only two locations in the world; Okinawa, Japan and in Tonga.

Masa Jr is committed to continue the legacy of the family business focusing on health and beauty products.

Our mission

We develop quality food and beauty products for Tonga’s aquaculture industry, creating local jobs,  good for the economy, good for the ocean environment and good for people’s health and wellbeing.

Nutritional Value

Mozuku seaweed is highly sought-after for its nutritional properties. It is rich in fucoidan, a substance which has been widely researched for its potential health benefits/immune-boosting properties.

Aquaculture Economy

The growth of the seaweed aquaculture industry is good for the economy and good for the ocean. The process of growing seaweed is environmentally friendly.

Environmentally Friendly

Seaweed farms create safe and healthy nursery grounds for young fish and crustaceans that can later be harvested commercially or improve wild population levels.

I want to make mozuku Tonga’s own edible super-seaweed

In Japan, I know that mozuku is considered valuable as an edible seaweed.  It is very nutritious and is reputed to have immune boosting properties.

We have been growing our customer base, not only in Japan, but in other markets such as the USA. We are currently prospecting in the Chinese market
